Nintendo Shocks By Delaying Switch 2 Pre-Orders In The U.S. – Price May Rise

Nintendo has made the shocking decision to delay pre-orders of the Nintendo Switch 2 in the United States. The move comes after President Trump released significant new tariffs on other nations that have shaken up the global financial stage. Pre-orders were intended to begin on April 9, but will now start at an unspecified future date. The June 5 release date remains unchanged.

The full statement from Nintendo as provided to other outlets such as IGN reads as follows:

Pre-orders for Nintendo Switch 2 in the U.S. will not start April 9, 2025 in order to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions. Nintendo will update timing at a later date. The launch date of June 5, 2025 is unchanged.

The tariff situation from the United States has shaken the globe, and threatens to affect prices on most goods.

The tariffs were announced just a short time after the Nintendo Switch 2 Direct showcase, and thus were unpredictable for Nintendo at the time. Tariffs will be hitting many countries, including those in which Nintendo sources materials or labor for the production of the Switch 2. Whilst there is no confirmation yet, this shift in global economic situation could also result in an adjustment of the already controversial Switch 2 price tag. With the delay to pre-orders, this seems like a real possibility.

This is an ongoing situation and we will bring you updates as they come. What do you think of the impact of tariffs on the Nintendo Switch 2 release, and how do you think Nintendo should proceed? Let us know your thoughts on this developing story in the comments down below.
