Splatoon X Pokémon Collaboration Splatfest Revealed

It seemed inevitable ever since it was first announced that Splatoon 3 would have three-team Splatfests, but the day is finally here. Nintendo has announced the next Splatoon 3 Splatfest will be Pokémon-themed. Players will chose between grass-type, fire-type and water-type, in what is sure to be a Splatfest for the ages. The Splatoon x Pokémon Splatfest begins Nov. 11 and ends Nov. 13 in the USA. For those in Europe, it’ll be the following day after midnight.

The three Pokémon types are representative of the starter Pokémon, specifically those found in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. The official promotional art shows Sprigatito’s silhouette with the grass-type team, Fuecoco’s silhouette with the fire-type team, and Quaxly’s silhouette with the water-type team. Players will get an in-game Splatfest shirt representative of their choice when they choose their team, which will begin closer to the event.

Splatoon isn’t a stranger to collaborative Splatfests. The series has had a few crossovers, like Transformers and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. There was even already a Pokémon collaboration, with a Pokémon Red vs Pokémon Blue Splatfest in the first game. Pokémon Blue won in Europe and America, with its alternative Pokémon Green winning in Japan, all being represented by Marie.

The Tricolor battles of Splatoon 3 are different to any other Splatfest before. The first half of the Splatfest is the standard team vs team Turf War battle, but the second half unlocks the Tricolor Turf War option. In this special mode, the team currently winning the Splatfest must defend themselves against the enemy, with two players from the other two teams fighting to boost their score in the Splatfest.
