Square Enix Says Final Fantasy 14 Has No Plans For New Expansion Packs

It’s not news that Final Fantasy 14 is perhaps one of the most popular Final Fantasy games that Square Enix has produced. However, it appears it’s set for an uncertain future with perhaps no new expansion packs being released any time soon.

This news comes after Square Enix released its third quarter financial results. They reveal that although profits are up for the company, sales and operating income are on the decrease. Page 11 of this presentation mentions Final Fantasy 14 and states “no expansion pack releases planned but will focus on retaining users through a variety of optional initiatives.” We are unsure what these initiatives entail, but with fans expecting a follow-up to their 2021 expansion, Endwalker, it appears that nothing is on the horizon for now.

With an original 2013 launch and award-winning expansions following suit, Final Fantasy 14 is now one of the most popular MMOs on the market, so it will be a big shame to see no more content. With their first expansion, Heavensward, being released in 2015, a new expansion has been released around every two years (minus during the COVID-19 pandemic). This means that we were due to get one around winter time this year. This was even hinted at when game director, Naoki Yoshida, teased players with a level cap of 100 (from the current cap at 90) in the upcoming expansion.

Despite its latest Endwalker expansion setting the game’s current user record on Steam, it appears that there’s nothing coming soon from Square Enix at the moment. However, with this news only just breaking, new information will surely be available soon. We will be sure to update this story as it develops.

Yeah no, this is fake news. They’ve been planning new expansion already. Can’t you journalists do any sort of factual checking anymore? Or are you all going to be clickbaitty bs sites from now on?
Literally just last year, GamesRadar published an article about new expansion being planned and they actually bothered to do their due diligence.

The next expansion is coming out in 2024 (most likely first half based on the patch release schedule). They are actively working on it right now and the entire patch series starting at x.1 after Endwalker is setting up the next expansion.

This was most likely talking about no expansion release during this fiscal year. YoshiP, the producer/director of FF14, said many times Endwalker isn’t the end, and the graphics update is being released by 7.0, the next expansion.

She’s reporting what Square-Enix themselves said a couple of days ago. Maybe if you didn’t have your head up your @$$ you would already know that.

Is everyone posting here a braindead moron? Square-Enix said this themselves you half-wits. And yes we know that an expansion is eventually coming, but Yoshi-P did promise that working on FF16 wouldn’t affect FF14 and yet here we are, a year (minimum) delay on the expansion. Bring back Tanaka, get Yoshi-P off FFXIV, the bum is working on 16 instead of 14… Besides, still barely any headpieces for the bunnies and lions (smh,) overly lazy seasonal events and no matter how many times Yoshi-P remakes the main scenario, it always sucks and is basically video game torture. FFXI is on its 5th director or so, time for FFXIV to get its 3rd director.
