Ten Games Are Leaving Xbox Game Pass On August 31

Today, August 31, 2022, is a sad day for Xbox Game Pass owners. No fewer than ten games are being dropped from the subscription-based service’s catalog of playable offerings. While it is normal for a few games to leave Game Pass over the course of a month, ten in one day is a dramatic drop – more than double the usual number. In addition, the games being removed from the service include a number of highly rated and fan favorite titles.

The ten games leaving Xbox Game Pass on August 31 are:

  • Elite Dangerous
  • Hades
  • NBA 2K22
  • Signs of the Sojourner
  • Spiritfarer
  • Twelve Minutes
  • Two Point Hospital
  • What Remains of Edith Finch
  • World War Z

It’s an especially sad day for indie game fans, as Spiritfarer, Hades, Twelve Minutes, What Remains of Edith Finch, and Signs of the Sojourner are all well-reviewed indie titles with devoted fan bases. In particular, Hades, a roguelike title about prince of Hell Zagreus and his many attempts to escape his father’s realm, is an extremely popular and highly rated indie game, currently holding a score of 94 on OpenCritic and receiving recommendations from 99% of critics.

Hades Receives New Rating for PS4 Version

Of course, the news is not all bad, as Xbox has announced a number of new titles coming to the Game Pass service throughout the month of September 2022. Nine games have been confirmed, including:

  • Beacon Pines
  • Disney Dreamlight Valley
  • Grid Legends (Xbox Game Pass Ultimate only)
  • Grounded
  • Hardspace: Shipbreaker
  • Moonscars
  • Slime Rancher 2
  • Train Sim World 3

Notably, two of these offerings, Disney Dreamlight Valley and Slime Rancher 2, will be joining Xbox Game Pass as early access titles. In addition, the popular time-loop based action-adventure title Outer Wilds will be released with a number of upgrades and enhancements designed for the Xbox Series X and S consoles. These titles will be appearing throughout the month, with the racing game Grid Legends being the first to join the lineup on September 1st.
