The Last Of Us Creators On What We Can Expect In Season 2

Be warned – spoilers ahead for The Last of Us Part II!

Craig Mazin has shared new details on what audiences can expect from The Last of Us Season 2. Speaking on the official The Last of Us podcast (which can be found at the link below) after Sunday night’s season finale, Mazin said that fans “can expect us to repeat the same process, which is we will look at what made that story special and what is the soul of that story. And that needs to remain intact.”

“The moment-to-moment beats and characters, they might stay the same, they might change,” the Chernobyl creator added. “We will do what needs to happen to that story as it transfers from one medium to another.”

Mazin said that in developing the second season, they would “also take advantage of the freedom we have in television that wasn’t there in the game, specifically the advantage of changing perspective. So, we will use what we can use in a new medium to tell that story and we will go through the same process of adaptation. It’s us again and there will be Pedro and there will be Bella. And there will be blood.”

The second season, recently green-lit by HBO, is expected to follow the events in The Last Of Us Part II, primarily Ellie’s unending pursuit of vengeance against the Washington Liberation Front, a group responsible for Joel’s death. The story focuses on the struggle for morality in a search for revenge. Newly-formed relationships are strained as Ellie’s revenge campaign escalates and threatens those she loves.
