The Last Of Us Remake Could Be A Holiday 2022 Release

The Last Of Us Remake could be a holiday release later this year. Journalist Jeff Grubb, speaking on the Kinda Funny Games Youtube channel, affirmed his belief that a remake would surface sometime in 2022. In Grubb’s own words, he cites that he “keeps hearing [that the games] coming out this year”.

Grubb adds: “You’ve got to keep in mind that The Last Of Us Part 2 came out a while ago, and there’s people at that studio who were looking around for something to do.”

Grubb described the studio as “a pretty efficient and well-oiled machine over there at Naughty Dog, and they don’t have to do too much because that’s the whole point – it’s a game they can update really quickly.”

Later in the podcast, Grubb and the group speculate on whether the remake will coincide with the release of HBO’s adaptation of The Last Of Us and if the long-awaited director’s cut of The Last Of Us Part II will see the light of day. Naughty Dog released The Last Of Us on Playstation 3 on June 14, 2013, with a remastered edition for the PS4 on July 29, 2014.

Reports of a remake surfaced for the first time in April 2021, as reported by GameLuster. Furthermore, Sony’s Visual Arts Service Group were working on the remake. At the start of 2022, an industry insider alleged that The Last Of Us Remake was near completion and could see a release date in the back half of 2022, aligning with Grubbs’ belief.

While the legitimacy of these claims remains unclear, Naughty Dog continues to hire. A recruitment notice suggested that the studio was working on a multiplayer title.

Earlier in 2021, Neil Druckmann confirmed that Naughty Dog has multiple projects in development. “We have several cool things we can’t wait to share with you. As soon as we can, we will!” Druckmann said.
