It’s been a few months since Sony dropped their PS5 Pro back in November, and the sales are reportedly starting to lag behind those of the PS4 Pro when comparing tracking periods. The information comes from credible gaming analyst Mat Piscatella via official Circana figures, and it paints an interesting picture of the PS5 Pro’s journey so far.
Now, before even diving too deep into the statistics, it’s important to note that the tracking week used by Circana isn’t completely even across both the PS5 Pro and PS4 Pro. The figures for the PS5 Pro cover four weeks, whilst the PS4 Pro tracking covered five weeks. Despite that, there’s still a clear “falling behind” by the PS5 Pro when aligning their launches, says Piscatella.
The PS5 Pro was always going to be a hard sell for consumers, with the insane price tag of $699.99 in the US. This is considerably larger than the $399.99 launch asking price of the PS4 Pro, and in the current economic state of many countries, far too high an ask for a gaming console. The pricing of the PS5 Pro starts to encroach into PC territory, an area which historically served to divide PC and console gaming. Whilst it does deliver some technological updates, the PS5 Pro is hardly a generational leap over its predecessor, and public perception on lack of console exclusives also doesn’t help push units.
