Are ya ready kids? THQ Nordic had its digital showcase this evening, and finally gave us more footage and details from Purple Lamp’s SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake. The game is a spiritual sequel to the 2020 remake of childhood gaming classic, SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle For Bikini Bottom – Rehydrated. Whilst details were sparse, we now have more information and new footage from the latest world-hopping adventure.
The trailer opens on a gigantic Gary, gone mad from a sugar rush after eating SpongeBob’s candy bars, in what is confirmed in a PlayStation blogpost to be a Halloween Rock Bottom world. It goes on to showcase other new settings from the Wishworlds, different worlds with a variety of themes inspired by history that SpongeBob and a balloon-ified Patrick travel through.
The first world showcased is Prehistoric Kelp Forest. We see a caveman SpongeBob – known by fans as SpongeGar – platforming and fighting his way through the ancient world. As if the gameplay and improved graphics weren’t intriguing enough, we even got a glimpse of the iconic Sea Bears (from 2002’s ‘The Campfire Episode’) in all their newfound 3D glory.
The trailer also shows off downtown Bikini Bottom, a Japan-inspired battle arena, and a sandy desert known as Wild West Jellyfish Fields. The final game is set to feature seven Wishworlds in total, so we now know the majority of them we can expect to see.
SpongeBob SquarePants: The Cosmic Shake is coming to PlayStation, Xbox, PC and the Nintendo Switch ‘soon’, Are you looking forward to the game?
