Possible Octopath Traveler Sequel Being Discussed

When Octopath Traveler was close to release, the developers made it clear that the game we got was going to be a finished product. The developers made statements which ensured that what you saw in the final game was it, and there were no plans to provide any additional content in the form of DLC or otherwise. It appears the developers are sticking to that promise. But that doesn’t mean we are finished in the world of Octopath Traveler.

In an interview for the weekly Famitsu magazine, Square Enix producer Tomoya Asano, who worked on the Nintendo Switch RPG, again confirmed the stance on downloadable content when asked if they would eventually provide additional content.

“Regarding paid DLCs, we had decided from the beginning not to create them, so there are no plans right now,” Asano said.

While no more stories are set to be told in the current game, there is still a chance for more adventures to come. Asano momentarily makes mention to a potential sequel, highlighting that talks have begun on the possibilities.

“And as for a sequel, we still cannot say anything concrete yet, but we’ve just started talks on how it ought to be,” he said.

Considering the massive success of Octopath Traveler, the chances of a sequel coming to light in the future are high, but time will tell.

During the same interview, Asano was asked about the Bravely Default series and whether we might see a new game in the future. Asano reassured Famitsu that the series will see a return in the future, although we will need to wait for such a time.
