Xbox Just Removed A Key Game Pass Benefit, Days After Raising Prices

The gaming industry feels like a bit of a mess over the last week. We’ve had EA sell to private investors for billions of dollars, there was Microsoft’s decision to raise its Game Pass prices amongst a major shake-up, and now there’s this. In a discreet change to its perks, Microsoft has quietly removed the discount that Game Pass Ultimate members used to get on DLC and add-on content for their games. Ouch.

This was notably spotted by CharlieIntel over on X (formerly Twitter), who pointed out that the 10% discount that Game Pass Ultimate subscribers used to get on Call of Duty Points and BlackCell packages is no longer available, leaving Call of Duty gamers to pay full price for their add-on content just a month out from the release of Black Ops 7. From here, folks started to notice that the discount isn’t just affecting Call of Duty – it applies to a lot of DLC content for major games.

What used to be considered by many to be the “best deal in gaming” is getting a little harder to justify following the removal of this perk. Microsoft is raising the price to $30 per month for an Ultimate subscription, so removing the 10% discount for certain DLC and currency purchases like in Call of Duty is certainly a bad look. The discount to COD Points was one of the only benefits that came with playing Call of Duty on its native Xbox and Windows PC platforms following the acquisition by Microsoft, but now that it’s gone players have even less reasons to choose an Xbox device.
