Xenoblade Chronicles 2’s Pyra & Mythra Join Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

The heroines of Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Pyra and Mythra, were announced during today’s Nintendo Direct as the next fighter in Wave 2 of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate‘s DLC. Pyra wields a combination of sword and flame attacks, while Mythra brings her unique Foresight ability to the battle. They will not appear on the roster as two separate characters, but rather as one. Like previous Smash DLC fighters, their abilities will be showcased in greater detail at a later date, likely in a stream hosted by series creator Masahiro Sakurai.

Chronicles 2‘s male protagonist Rex was disappointed to hear that he would not be the representative from the game chosen as the Smash fighter. However, the news wasn’t all bad for Rex, as he will get to make an appearance as part of Pyra & Mythra’s Final Smash attack.

The duo will also bring a new stage with them, this one flying through the air on the back of the Titan Azurda, nicknamed “Gramps”. Azurda seems to have retained his ability to talk, and comments on the action to Pyra and Mythra. Other Xenoblade Chronicles 2 characters appear in the background cheering the fighters on. It is likely that some Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Spirits will also join the Spirit Board, but exactly which ones will be added has not been announced at this time.

The second Smash Ultimate Fighters Pass costs $29.99 USD and will contain six characters in total. Previously released fighters include Min Min from Arms, protagonists Steve and Alex from Minecraft, and the most recently released DLC character, Final Fantasy VII’s iconic villain Sephiroth. Pyra and Mythra will officially join the roster sometime in March, with the final date not yet announced.

Are you excited for the latest fighter – or rather, fighters – to join Smash? How do you think Pyra and Mythra will fare in battle, and what new abilities and skills will they bring to the table? Let us know in the comments!
