Nintendo Announce Splatoon Raiders, The First Splatoon Spin-Off Game

In their first ever major game announcement to be delivered by the Nintendo Today app, Nintendo just revealed the upcoming Switch 2 exclusive Splatoon Raiders. The game will be exclusive to Nintendo’s next generation hardware, and will also be the first Splatoon spin-off game, after three mainline entries that broke records and catapulted itself to become a flagship Nintendo IP. The video has since been shared on Nintendo’s official YouTube channel.

Details are sparse, but we know the game will center around pop idol trio Deep Cut on a journey with a mechanic protagonist, joined by a walking robot and a mechanical ink tank. Players will be tasked with exploring the Spirhalite Islands, an overgrown island area with an unknown mystery behind it. Nintendo didn’t even give us a release date, but Splatoon Raiders will be coming to Switch 2 at some point in the future. Alongside the reveal of Splatoon Raiders, a new free update has been confirmed for Splatoon 3, including a free Switch 2 graphics and performance update.

Splatoon Raiders is set to expand the Splatoon universe beyond the mainline series for the first time.

The potential for the Splatoon franchise has always been something relatively untapped by Nintendo, with them only releasing mainline multiplayer and platformer shooters in the last ten years of its history. After a decade on the market, it’s refreshing to see them show willingness to branch out the Splatoon universe into other games and hopefully a different genre of gaming to broaden the potential audience and the ways that gamers can dive into the Splatoon world.

Are you looking forward to Splatoon Raiders, coming exclusively to the Nintendo Switch 2 some time in future? Do you think we’ll get more details like a release date in a future Nintendo Direct?
