Earlier this week, the latest Pokémon gym leader, Iono, was revealed for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Her partner Pokémon was kept a mystery until now, as we’ve officially been introduced to Bellibolt. Bellibolt the Electric Frog Pokémon is incredibly squishy, contracting and expanding its belly to generate an electric current.
The two white eye-looking bumps on the side of its head actually aren’t Bellibolt’s eyes, but instead are the areas electricity is discharged from. The real eyes are can be found right above the adorable smile that Bellibolt has on its face. This can be seen in the gameplay trailer below when Bellibolt blinks around 23 seconds in.
Bellibolt is the latest Pokémon reveal to be featured in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which is sure to feature dozens more unrevealed creatures. We don’t know yet if Bellibolt will have an evolution, unlike Girafarig who recently had a confirmed Normal/Psychic-type evolution to appear in the new games.
Iono uses Bellibolt as her partner Pokémon. She is a streamer, content creator and potential VTuber who takes the role of Electric-type gym leader in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Iono’s name is a pun seemingly suggesting a mystery around her identity, with her Spanish name being E-Nigma which really doubles down on the theme.
There’s only a month left until the release of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which releases on Nov. 18. There’s a lot of unanswered questions around the game right now, which will unravel over the course of the three different adventures in the game.
