Bayonetta Origins: Cereza: How To Defeat Puca And Affinity

The Fire Core, the final of the four elemental cores Cereza must gather in Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon, is guarded by a fae creature known as Puca, The Grand Faerie King. However, unlike the three core-guarding bosses players previously conquered – Fomhorach, Amadan Dubh, and Jabberwock – Puca initially does not fight Cereza and Cheshire himself. Instead, he uses his angelic summon, Affinity, which can unleash a number of powerful and tricky attacks. This guide will teach players how to defeat Puca and Affinity and claim the Fire Core for themselves in Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.

An Affinity For Battle

Puca1

“Never split the party” isn’t advice that you can follow in this boss fight, unfortunately. Affinity will start out by kidnapping Cereza and trapping her inside a giant iron maiden. During this phase of the fight, you will be controlling Cheshire exclusively. Attack Affinity with the ability of your choice while trying to get between it and the iron maiden. Any damage-dealing attacks will work here, but the Water Laser attack using Cheshire’s Water form is particularly effective.

Eventually, Affinity will let go of the iron maiden and Cereza will be free. Continue attacking the boss with both Cereza and Cheshire. Affinity will sometimes use a wide AOE spear attack. It will signal this attack by floating into the air, so head to the edge of the arena once you see the signal. After the huge AOE attack, Affinity will drop its spear and be temporarily powerless. This gives you a great opportunity to freeze it with Cereza’s Thorn Vice and do heavy damage with Cheshire.

Continue this pattern until Affinity has lost most of its health. A frustrated Puca will then grant Affinity a fiery shield that will resist damage. Then, transform Cheshire into his Water form and use Water-based elemental attacks until Affinity’s shield drops and you can once again deal large amounts of damage. Affinity will eventually lose all its health, and Cheshire will perform a final attack that destroys both the angelic being and the iron maiden. Unfortunately, the fight doesn’t end here, as Puca now decides to get involved himself!

Puca’s Perilous Path

Puca4

The next stage of the battle against Puca focuses on teamwork and puzzle solving rather than outright combat. Puca will trap Cereza and Cheshire on two different paths, and you must regularly switch between the two, pressing switches so that the other can progress further. When controlling Cheshire, you will have to regularly alternate between Water and Stone forms to douse fires and move stone blocks (Water) and block lasers shot by Puca (Stone). In addition, both characters will have to dodge Puca’s various projectiles and the giant metal spikes that sometimes erupt from the ground.

The King (Finally) Takes The Stage

Puca3

Upon reaching the end of the maze, Puca the self-proclaimed “King” will finally be ready to fight you himself…not! He’ll summon multiple copies of Affinity this time, although each copy is weaker than the original. Defeat an Affinity and then hit ZL and rotate the left joystick to use Cereza’s Umbral Time Magic to restore the iron maiden. Then, have Cheshire push the Affinity inside the iron maiden. This will stun Puca, allowing Cheshire to attack him for huge amounts of damage.

Repeat this pattern until Puca begins summoning Affinity copies with flame shields. This is the sign that he is ramping things up. At this point, the Affinity copies will begin performing long-range lunge attacks while Puca will rain down fireballs on the arena. Avoid these attacks by watching the gold lines and black circles that appear on the arena floor. Just keep dodging until an Affinity gets close enough for you to use Thorn Vice to freeze it in place before having Cheshire destroy it and push it into the iron maiden. Once again, destroying an Affinity will stun Puca and allow Cheshire to attack him for a short period of time.

Burn, Baby Burn!

PucaFire

Finally, when Puca’s health bar is fully defeated, a cutscene will trigger in which Cheshire uses a powerful water jet to trap Puca himself inside the iron maiden. Simply mash R as fast as you can to power up the water jet attack. Unfortunately, Puca will refuse to be permanently defeated, and will run away, embarrassed by his defeat. Fortunately, this does still count as you winning the battle, and you will be awarded with the Fire Core. This gives Cereza the ability to extend her magic meter by absorbing flaming walls. Plus, Cheshire will be able to access his Fire Form, which can melt objects while exploring and launch flaming projectiles in battle. In addition, you will gain a Vitality Flower that permanently increases Cereza’s health.

With this guide, you will be able to knock Puca from his self-proclaimed throne and claim the Fire Core, the final of the four Elemental Cores in Bayonetta Origins: Cereza and the Lost Demon.
