A Classic Modern Warfare 2 Map Could Be Making A Comeback

Rust, a highly-popular Call of Duty map, has appeared in Modern Warfare II – but not quite in the way you think. Considered a fan-favourite among the Call of Duty community for its cramped, close-quarters combat, and based on the campaign mission “Endgame”, the map was first released with Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in 2009. The map made an encore appearance during a recent season of 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot, and it seems likely the map will make a comeback once again.

In a clip posted to ModernWarzone’s official Twitter account, a player stumbles upon parts of Rust’s iconic, dilapidated structure. The layout of the tower is instantly familiar to the player, but not everything is the same as before. “Rust can be found on the new Warzone 2.0 map Al Mazrah,” the post reads. “You can check it out for yourself right now on the Taraq ground war map. It’s right at the B flag.”

Take a gander at the clip above and see what you think. ModernWarzone wasn’t the only Call of Duty fan to notice the returning classic map, as Reddit user u/nonvizo posted a screenshot of the same tower structure online and asked the community if anybody else had spotted it. In response to the post, another Reddit user felt the map had been “modelled out accurately, too. They definitely withheld either to drop it in this game in case another map didn’t work out or it didn’t playtest very well in MW19’s mp.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is available across all major platforms, including the PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Those who pre-ordered the game digitally across any platform had early access to the campaign from October 20. For more on all things Call of Duty, stay tuned right here at GameLuster.
