One surprising but highly exciting announcement during Sony's PlayStation 5 reveal event was the return of none other than everybody's favorite stone-cold (or would that be clone-cold?) killer, Agent 47. The beloved star of IO Interactive's Hitman franchise will return in Hitman 3, to be released for the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X, Xbox One, and PC. It will release in January 2021.
An announcement by IO confirms that the title will conclude the World of Assassination trilogy, which kicked off with the revamped Hitman in 2016. The story will feature Agent 47, taking on the most important and personal contracts of his entire career. Whether he chooses to eliminate his targets openly or stealthily, once it's all done, his life and the world he inhabits will never be the same.
Hitman 3 will see Agent 47 tracking targets in six exciting, gorgeously rendered locations. One of these, the ultra-luxurious Dubai, was revealed via a gameplay trailer during the event.
IO has confirmed that the player's choices will affect how the world around them changes and reacts in an unprecedented level of interactive, consequence-laden gameplay. Plus, Hitman fans will be thrilled to know that progress and locations from the previous World of Assassination titles — including areas introduced via expansions — can be imported into Hitman 3. The developer has envisioned the game as a vehicle for being able to play and experience all three titles in the trilogy from one location.
In an exclusive blog post, IO Interactive revealed that they are both developing and publishing the game themselves, a first for the Hitman franchise. It is designed with and powered by state of the art Glacier technology. More news is expected to be announced as the game's release date approaches. IO has also stated that you can create an account on their official website and subscribe for more exciting Hitman news.
