Assassin’s Creed Shadows Breaks Franchise Record, Becomes Most-Played AC Game On Steam

We’ve been keeping a watchful eye on Assassin’s Creed Shadows performance via Steam player charts. With pre-order numbers second only to Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, we were eager to see how the game fared once it dropped. It seems that much of the online pessimism after constant controversy hasn’t managed to stop Assassin’s Creed Shadows though, as it has now become the most-played Assassin’s Creed game on Steam!

The metric comes from concurrent player count, provided in trackable charts over on SteamDB. The former peak Assassin’s Creed player count came with Odyssey, as 62,069 players concurrently played the game on the Sunday after its launch. Assassin’s Creed Shadows just crossed 64,800 concurrent Steam players, giving it a narrow edge over Odyssey and securing the title of most played Assassin’s Creed game on Steam.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows had a tough time online, but managed to pull through and perform well despite it.

It was a tight race, and as someone who’s been closely tracking the game’s performance I wasn’t entirely sure if Assassin’s Creed Shadows would have been able to cross the threshold and secure the new franchise record. The reviews from critics have been mostly positive, but with a lot of online criticism, including an active push by some groups to undermine and boycott the game, it had a tough situation to push through.

Have you been playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows, and what do you think of its launch performance? Overall, it seems like an impressive one, with a few franchise records to its name already and the somewhat toxic online discourse not being able to suppress it.
