It seems the headlines surrounding Assassin’s Creed Shadows are never ending, but we’ve got yet another piece of breaking news – the latest in Ubisoft’s long-running series has now crossed over three million players since its launch last week. The player update announcement comes following a viral post made by the official Assassin’s Creed account in response to criticism from Elon Musk. Their post amassed over 716,000 likes so far, in contrast to Musk’s 36,000 – a humiliating process known online as “ratioing”.
This astronomical ratio was followed by thousands of people posting in support of Assassin’s Creed‘s response to the tech billionaire, with many even outright purchasing Shadows in support of Ubisoft’s latest game. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is under intense criticism and pushback from those taking issue with its themes and characters – including Musk. The calls for boycotts and masses of hate tweets from these groups have not been enough to slow the success of Assassin’s Creed Shadows though.
The official announcement of three million players also comes with some other new statistics, revealing that Assassin’s Creed Shadows had the second highest first-day sales revenue for any game in Assassin’s Creed history, the biggest Ubisoft first-day launch on the digital PlayStation Store, and over 40 million hours have been playing from the massive 3 million player count. This also comes following other headlines in relation to the game’s success, such as how it became the most-played game in the franchise on Steam the weekend after launch.
