Black Ops Cold War Breaks The Top 20 Bestsellers In The US

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has become one of the bestselling video games in the US, courtesy of a report from NPD Group analyst Mat Piscatella. Currently, Treyarch and Raven Software’s Black Ops Cold War sits at number twenty in January 2021, following its launch in November 2020.

It’s an impressive feat for the sequel to 2010’s Black Ops. Piscatella summarized the first month of 2021 in a couple of Twitter posts.

“Big start for video games. HW, Content, ACC, all up big.” Piscatella says. “New gen consoles, headsets, gamepads and all types of content are up, digital and physical, despite no new releases making the top 10.” He added: “Feb should be strong as well, then we get into tougher comps.”

A share of the success has to be attributed to the integration of Black Ops Cold War with Warzone back in December, with more than 85 million players are dropping into the battle-royale.

In further tweets, Piscatella reports that Black Ops Cold War was not only January’s best selling title in the US, but also for each consecutive month since its launch in November.

An official list, accounting for the top twenty best sellers in January 2021, can be seen in its entirety below. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the ill-fated Cyberpunk 2077 dropped from #2 to #18, while Spider-Man: Miles Morales takes third, followed by Madden NFL 21 and Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Ubisoft’s Viking epic Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla replaced Cyberpunk 2077 at #2, while also becoming the second fastest-selling title in the franchise (during the first three months of sales) behind Assassin’s Creed III. Meanwhile, 2019’s Modern Warfare reboot climbed the list from #26 to #8, while FIFA 21 climbed from #14 to #12.

As previously reported by GameLuster, a new Call Of Duty is due to be released later in 2021.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
