Call Of Duty Are Projecting Annual Releases Into 2027

In 2003, the first Call of Duty title launched. Few could imagine how successful the franchise would be, churning out some of the most iconic and influential shooter titles across a global audience for the next twenty years.

Black Ops (2010), the highest-selling Call of Duty title of all time, a second iteration of Warzone, only five days post-launch, had amassed 25 million players, more than 650 million Call of Duty Mobile players, a lifetime revenue stream of $30 billion, and more than 400 million copies of titles sold to date.

Call of Duty has swept the competition aside and in their current form, are set to push ahead without end. Rob Kostich, the president of Activision, shared in an interview with VentureBeat that the company (of 3,000 strong) intend to maintain their annual releases until 2027, with four more titles in active development.

Kostich said the company were “constantly in our planning phase, our long-term planning phase. Right now, we have games planned out all the way through ’27 for the things that we’re working on.”

A twenty-year legacy for the series is a milestone Kostich felt “great” about during his conversation with the publication. “To me, what’s really incredible over these 20 years is I look at it – actually, when I look forward from where we are today, I think our opportunities in front of us are greater than anything we’ve had before us. It’s really exciting.”

“I just feel like the teams have so much passion and ambition and things they want to do. It continues to be really, really fun and we’re just really fortunate, all of us get to work on such a great franchise.”

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III will launch on Friday, November 10, 2023 across the PS5, PS4, Xbox One and Series consoles, and PC.
