Epic Cancels And Resubmits Fortnite App Store Submission Following Apple Delays

Following Apple’s loss to Epic Games in their intense courtroom battle over microtransactions and fees, Fortnite was set to come out swinging with a brisk return to Apple’s App Store on all iOS devices. As we reported recently though, the submission request was left over 100 hours without a response. Following this delay, Epic Games has announced that they have cancelled their first App Store review request, and have resubmitted it again with the hopes of going live around Friday with the upcoming Fortnite update.

The announcement was made on the X (formerly Twitter) page of Tim Sweeney, CEO and founder of Epic Games. In his update post, he clarifies that “all platforms must update simultaneously”, so after sitting around for 120+ hours without any response, they “pulled the previous Fortnite version submitted to Apple App Review” and have already gone ahead and submitted the new version. Should Apple respond in a regular amount of time with this request, we should see Fortnite back on the App Store in time for the weekend.

The power of Apple’s sluggish App Store review process isn’t stopping Epic Games from pushing hard to get Fortnite through.

Most App Store requests are estimated to take 48 hours or less, and many fans of the battle royale were left scratching their heads with why Fortnite has been left in review purgatory for so long. The results of the Epic v. Apple court case concluded with Apple needing to allow Fortnite purchases to be made through means other than Apple’s payment services, removing their share of the income and giving it all to Epic Games – who now plan on giving it back to the customers to say thank you.

Are you hoping to see Fortnite make the successful leap back onto the Apple App Store and any of your iOS devices? How long do you think Apple will take to respond?
