Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers July 3 – 9, as Final Fantasy XVI failed to reclaim the top spot in its third week, being overtaken by Tears of the Kingdom in its eighth week. Sales of the latest entry in the Final Fantasy series dropped by 63% from last week, shifting a little over 14,000 copies over the last week.
The success of Tears of the Kingdom has been monumental, managing to sell roughly an additional 18,000 units over the last week, a 31% drop over last week’s sales that still gave it the numbers needed to return to the top spot. It’s been yet another excellent year for the Nintendo Switch thus far, and a great week on the Famitsu charts too, with the entire top 10 (besides from Final Fantasy XVI) being Switch titles.
