Every Thursday we share the weekly Famitsu sales charts, which tracks physical boxed game sales and hardware sales in Japan. This week’s chart covers March 11 – 17, as Vanillaware’s tactical strategy Unicorn Overlord takes the top spot once again after overtaking Final Fantasy VII Rebirth last week. With its Nintendo Switch release, Unicorn Overlord fell just 61% in its second week on sale.
At second place is Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, which falls an extra 53% in sales to 11,497 copies sold in its third week on sale. To compare that to other recent Final Fantasy releases, it’s a much better hold than Final Fantasy XVI which had a 63% third-week slip, but doesn’t match the highs of Final Fantasy VII Remake, the first entry in the remake trilogy, which fell just 7% in its third week. It’s worth noting that Final Fantasy VII Remake also started out much higher, likely attributable to the state of the pandemic that was ongoing at the time.
