Fans Are Remaking Oblivion With Skyrim’s Engine, And It’s Almost Done

As one of the most iconic RPGs of the modern age, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim has a lot of mods – but one recent fanmade project using Skyrim‘s engine may be the most ambitious use of the 2011 game yet. See, a volunteer group of 50+ passionate fans have come together to completely remake The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion using Skyrim‘s engine. Perhaps most excitingly, a new development update on the game says that it could be coming soon.

The developers over on the Rebelzize YouTube channel hosted a livestream showing gameplay of their remake project, charmingly named Skyblivion. During the stream, the developers confirm that they are “confident” that the project will be released to the public “this year”. Skyblivion looks like a tremendous effort from the passionate fans, and the idea we could actually have our hands on it this year has us thrilled. Apparently, major cities from the original Oblivion have already been finished and enhanced.

You see, not only does Skyblivion seek to remake Oblivion, but it changes the beloved game with some fascinating alterations across areas of development. From new approaches to sound, enemy scaling alterations and even a new levelling system, it’s an almighty effort that even Talos himself would be taken aback to witness.

There are no other details on release, other than the developers think it will be ready sometime this year. As a fanmade project there could always be delays, so we’re still prepared to be patient if need be! It will be free to play, but will require players own both Skyrim: Special Edition and Oblivion with all DLCs to allow the installation of the mod. You can keep track of development progression over on the official Skyblivion website, with a whole bunch of social links to show your love to the project and its team.
