How to Fix The Lag and Stuttering Issue in Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is a new open-world action role-playing game based on the Harry Potter series, developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games. That being said, it has been described as problematic, with many players reporting issues such as lags and stuttering. Thankfully, we can all collectively take a deep breath as it is likely due to a bug in the early-access game.

Hogwarts Legacy itself is fun and enjoyable. It offers several things, such as exploring the open world, completing quests, clearing dungeons, looting chests, and more. You also get the customization option in the game, where you can customize your character’s appearance, including body types, voices, and accessories. But the lag and stuttering issues can make it frustrating.

We have many players who are eager to know how to fix this problem in Hogwarts Legacy. Seeing that, we have prepared a handy guide on how to fix the lag and stuttering issues.

Another way to fix the lag and stuttering issue is by closing the unnecessary background applications. Here is an easy way to do that:

  •  Press the CTRL + Shift + ESC or CTRL + ALT + DEL button on your keyboard
  • Click on Task Manager
  • Select the application you wish to close
  • Click on End Task to close the application. Voila!
3) Reduce in-game Graphics Settings

High Graphics settings could be one of the reasons for the lag issue. You can lower the graphics settings of the game and check if it is helping or not. To do this, launch the game and go to the “Options” menu. From there, you can lower the resolution, texture quality, anti-aliasing, motion blur, and other graphics settings to see if these fix the issues.

4) Verify Game Integrity

How to Verify Integrity of Game Files - Valibyte

If you are playing Hogwarts Legacy on a PC via Steam, try verifying the game files through the Steam client to ensure that all game integrity is intact. The same verification process can be done for Epic Games Store as well.

  • Open the Steam Application
  • Go to Library
  • Select Hogwarts Legacy
  • Right-click and choose Properties.
  • In the Properties menu, click on the Local Files option.
  • Then click on the Verify integrity of game files…  and wait for Steam to verify.
5) Update Drivers

System

Make sure to install the latest version of Windows 10/11 on your PC. To do this, go to the Settings app and click on the “Check for Updates” button. Once you are done, you have to install the latest version of your graphics card drivers. You can also go to your graphics card manufacturer’s website and download the suitable driver for your PC.

6) Check For Updates

If a black screen appears during gameplay, it is best to check for any available updates or patches from the official website or forums. Make sure you have the latest version of Hogwarts Legacy installed which can easily be done by downloading the game from Steam or the Microsoft Store. If this does not help or if concerns persist for more than a few days, it may be necessary to uninstall and reinstall Hogwarts Legacy to try and resolve any stutter or lag issues.

Hogwarts Legacy is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC (on Steam and the Epic Game Store) via early access. It will be available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One.

I even have a pc that is way higher with rtx and the game should even be able to play on ultra with rtx on. But still lag, bugs. I think it’s the anti pirating program in the game that is f***ing up the game.
