Gwent Partners Open Kicks Off Today!

Are you impatiently waiting for the now-delayed release of Cyberpunk 2077? CD Projekt RED proudly presents the perfect way to spend the next couple of days: watching the Gwent Partners Open official tournament! The event starts today, April 28, and will conclude on Saturday, May 2.

Gwent, the hit free-to-play collectible card game, began its life as a frustrating-yet-addicting sidequest in 2015’s The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Collecting all hundred-plus cards was a daunting task. Yet, many players found themselves irresistibly drawn to the allure of entering Geralt into high stakes tourneys or challenging practically every NPC you meet to a hand or two.

This widespread popularity led to the official release of Gwent: The Witcher Card Game in 2018. It is currently available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Microsoft Windows, and, more recently, iOS and Android. The playstyle of the game remains similar to its Wild Hunt origins, with players choosing from factions including the Northern Kingdoms, the Nilfgaardian Empire, and Monsters, and competing to earn the highest score in two out of three rounds. Additional cards can be won or purchased using in-game or real-world currencies.

This week, CD Projekt RED will be hosting the official Gwent Partners Open competitive tournament. The participants have dedicated Gwent ambassadors known as “Partners,” who use their YouTube and Twitch channels to promote the game. The official lineup of the event is as follows:

Rounds 1 and 2 will be held on Tuesday, April 28, starting at 6 p.m. CEST. Rounds 3 and 5 will follow at the same time on Wednesday, April 29. If needed, a fifth and sixth-round will begin on Thursday, April 30, beginning at 5 p.m. CEST. Qualifying rounds will feature best-of-three matchups in the Swiss format.

The finals, which will utilize a single-elimination format, will be held on Saturday, May 2, beginning at noon CEST and concluding when a winner is crowned.

All matches can be watched via the official CD Projekt RED Twitch channel found here. Also, many participants will be streaming their games from their respective channels, which are listed on this page.

Gwent fans who have the “Twitch Drops” program enabled will have a chance of winning up to 5 Kegs (random card packs) or 100 Meteorite Powder (in-game currency) while watching the event.

If you’re anything like me, you know that it’s always the right time for a game of Gwent. Infiltrating a high-class masquerade ball? In the middle of searching for your long-lost daughter? Just after a guy told you his entire tragic backstory and asked you to take down the monsters responsible? The correct dialogue choice is always “How about a round of cards?”

And what about the middle of a global pandemic?

Absolutely.

Best of luck to all participating players, and may the best king, queen, monster, rebel, witcher, or bard win!
