From Square Enix and subsidiary Balan Company comes this three-dimensional platformer with a unique musical flair. Balan Wonderworld tells the story of two playable characters, Emma and Leo, as they follow the mysterious maestro Balan and get lost in Wonderworld. In this realm, dreams, reality, and music all combine into one unforgettable experience. Can Leo and Emma make their way through Wonderworld and confront Balan? Find out next year on the console of your choice — including the Nintendo Switch!
Balan Wonderworld will feature 12 unique stages, each centered around a theme such as “wind” or “ocean,” Leo and Emma will have to collect over 80 costumes to unlock each outfit’s unique ability and make their way through the different stages. During today’s Nintendo Direct Mini Partner Showcase event, brand new gameplay footage showed off two costumes. Emma’s Soaring Sheep allows her to ride the wind and float over obstacles, while Leo’s Pumpkin Puncher gives him the ability to punch through even the most massive blocks.
With the powers granted by their costumes, Leo and Emma will have to seek out hidden statues to unlock later stages. Plus, each stage has a boss lurking at its end – and, from the trailers we’ve seen so far, these will be tough fights indeed. But no need to worry — you can team up with a friend to combine both Leo and Emma’s powers in multiplayer mode.
Directed by former Sonic Team head Yuji Naka, this unique game draws inspiration from classic titles, including the Super Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog franchises and fellow surreal action title Nights Into Dreams.
Balan Wonderworld will release on March 26, 2021, for the Xbox One, Xbox Series S and X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Choose your preferred platform and get exploring!
