Jurassic World Evolution 3 Removing Generative AI Art Following Backlash

The upcoming dinosaur-filled management and simulation game Jurassic World Evolution 3 had a controversial reveal. After the first trailer released just a few weeks ago, the developers confirmed they’d be using generative AI to create the portraits for in-game scientists. This led to a lot of backlash from Jurassic World fans, including one lengthy Steam Community thread denouncing how the game is “giving up on humans” by taking the job of creating scientist portraits from artists. The developers at Frontier Developments heard the backlash – and they’re acting on it!

Responding to the Steam Community page directly, the developers said “we have opted to remove the use of generative AI for scientist portraits within Jurassic World Evolution 3.” The removal of AI tools to create these images will open up the opportunity for human artists within the company to create more art for the game, and honestly, we’d say that’s a good thing.

Life finds a way, as do human artists, as generative AI is to be removed from Jurassic World Evolution 3.

Generative AI is an increasingly prevalent issue in the gaming industry. Some games like Call of Duty opt to shamelessly integrate it even for paid cosmetics without acknowledgement of the backlash, whilst other developers and creatives like Masahiro Sakurai take more nuanced and cautious approaches. Regardless of our thoughts, generative AI will no longer be used in Jurassic World Evolution 3 for its scientist portraits and the community seem pleased with the change.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 launches on Oct. 21 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Will you be trying out the next Jurassic World Evolution game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments down below, and keep your eyes on GameLuster for more breaking gaming news.
