Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom: How To Duplicate Inventory Items

DISCLAIMER: As of 5/26/23, this glitch has been removed in Version 1.1.2 of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If you wish to continue making use of this glitch, DO NOT update your game beyond Version 1.1.1 and turn off Auto-Update features.

Picture this: you’ve finished a long day of adventuring around Hyrule, and you come back to the stable to cook yourself a fine meal. But alas, you only have one piece of Raw Meat left. How’s a legendary swordsman supposed to stay in tip top fighting condition with such a scant inventory of consumables!?

Well, as fate would have it, a few resourceful gamers have discovered a glitch that allows you to duplicate any item in your consumables inventory in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and you can do so as many times as you want. Best of all, it takes no more than a few seconds, and no extra skill! All you need is a paraglider and some quick fingers!

Note: This glitch ONLY works for items in your consumable inventory. This includes fruits, veggies, raw meat, and monster parts. This does NOT include weapons or Zonai devices; glitches for duplicating these exist, but they are a bit more complicated. However, if you’re just looking to increase the amount of Sapphires in your inventory to make some extra Rupees, or ensure a hearty supply of Splash Fruit, then this glitch is for you. How To Use The Item Duplication Glitch In Tears Of The Kingdom

Link in mid air after leaping off a small log. His paraglider is active just before he hits the ground.
You’ll want to jump off an object with just enough height to allow you to trigger Link’s paraglider.

Start by finding a crate or small boulder/outcrop that you can jump off off. It must be not too high off the ground, but high enough so that you can trigger your paraglider easily. Once you’ve jumped and triggered the paraglider, quickly hit the + button and find the inventory item you wish to duplicate. You can drop up to 5 of the same item, and this glitch should, if triggered correctly, give you back 10 items. After selecting the items, hit the Hold option. Now, you will want to click the Y and B buttons at the exact same time. Doing so should return you to the game and dropped the item(s) you were initially holding. Quickly tap A to return the dropped items to your inventory; if timed correctly, this should be as soon as you hit the ground, or just before. Then, return to your inventory, and you should see double the original number of items that you dropped.

Menu screen from Tears of the Kingdom displaying the consumable items from the player inventory. The Ice-Breath Lizalfos horn is selected and highlighted blue. On the right, Link is shown holding the horn and looking down at it.
Link should be holding the intended duplication item while he is in midair with the paraglider active.

It may take some trial and error to get this right, and some players noted noted that the glitch didn’t work roughly once out of every 5 tries, so it isn’t perfect. That being said, it’s still a pretty quick way to increase inventory, and if you have REALLY fast fingers, you could perform this trick on a couple of different items in one jump attempt. Just remember:

  • Make sure you are in the air when hitting the + button to attempt the duplication.
  • Click the Hold button for up to 5 of the same item.
  • Click Y and B at the exact same time to trigger the glitch. If one button is clicked even a fraction of a second before the other, the glitch will NOT work.
  • Grab the items as soon as they hit the ground.

And that’s all there is to it! You’ll need to practice a bit to master the technique, but once you do, you’re pretty much set to be the richest man in all of Hyrule!
