Level-5 Announces Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy DX for Switch

In 2017 Level-5 released the latest installment in the much loved Layton series, Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy for Nintendo 3DS and mobile platforms. This time however they made a change by focusing on Professor Layton’s daughter, Katrielle, as opposed to the series’ iconic protagonist. It was a change for the franchise but introduced a nice mix up to the series’ traditional style, with smaller vignette-type stories as opposed to full-scale adventures. It had its flaws but was still an enjoyable game, however it didn’t quite grab the same level of attention as the previous games.

In what can only be assumed as a bid to drive further sales utilizing a thriving platform, Level-5 is bringing Layton’s Mystery Journey to the Nintendo Switch, as revealed through the latest issue of popular Japanese publication Famitsu. They will bring the game to the platform as Layton’s Mystery Journey: Katrielle and the Millionaires’ Conspiracy DX.

According to Famitsu, the Switch version will do away with the touchscreen controls present in the 3DS and mobile versions and instead use traditional controls. How this will work with the game isn’t completely clear.

At this time, this announcement is only for Japan, but it would be safe to assume that Level-5 will bring the game worldwide like other Layton titles, perhaps revealing this at E3 or some time in the near future. For Japan the game will release August 9.

It’s unclear whether Level-5 will make any additions to the base game, although it can be assumed that they will make previously purchasable costumes for Katrielle come free with the game. We will have to wait and see if Level-5 makes any other additions or changes.
