More details have been revealed on the upcoming DLC for Lies of P, the Bloodborne-inspired dark fantasy title that launched earlier this year. On Halloween night, 31st October 2023, Lies of P game director Jiwon Choi streamed a 10 minute Director’s Letter to the Soulslike’s official YouTube channel.
Choi had a steady stream of information to reveal, starting with an upcoming balance patch. This coming November, Lies of P will receive a balance patch centred around its weapon crafting system. The system allows players to combine different weapon blades and hilts, resulting in unique and interesting movesets. Choi revealed that though players were clearly taken with the mechanic, feedback suggests that weapon crafting is not yet being used to its full potential. To that end, the November patch will work to make crafting more worthwhile. Full details will release with the patch notes.
Additionally, the patch will boost the starting power for new Lies of P players. Initial stats will be boosted, better levelling the initial playing field. Further, the “Rising Dodge” skill will no longer be unlockable, and will instead become part of P’s default moveset from the start. The final rejuvenation comes from Polendina, a character and merchant present throughout Lies of P’s story. Polendina will now sell two additional Quartz, bringing his total up to 3. Quartz is the material used for P’s most powerful and essential upgrades.
Moving onto DLC, Choi deftly provided a barrage of information without revealing much at all. The previously confirmed collaboration with Team Ninja’s Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, a Soulslike which launched earlier this year, has begun. Lies of P’s umbrella weapon, named Etiquette, is currently available in Wo Long. As for the return collaboration, no major details were provided, but Choi confirmed that work is ongoing for Team Ninja’s representation in Neowiz’s world of Krat.
In a similar, smaller vein, new cosmetics are being gifted to Lies of P players, along with a mild overhaul of the cosmetic system. Players will receive a free top hat and monocle, which can be equipped together or separately. The mask slot will be split into two parts, allowing players to mix and match hats and glasses instead of wearing them as given sets.
Finally, Choi came to the major DLC for Lies of P. Little was revealed, but he confirmed work has begun on its development, and also confirmed that a sequel to the game is happening—Neowiz are currently hiring for it. The director showed off two pieces of concept art for the DLC. The first shows P in some kind of factory, with a massive central pipe bursting with water. An ominous hole in the ground lies in the foreground. The second image shows P on the deck of a ship, ramming into the hull of another. Whether this suggests a ship level, travelling beyond Krat, or both remains to be seen. Choi did not reveal any further details, but promised that the Neowiz development team remains focused on delivering narrative twists and turns to delight players.
