Mass Effect Trilogy Director Establishes Humanoid Studios

Having left BioWare back in December of last year, former BioWare General Manager and Mass Effect trilogy Director Casey Hudson has now announced the establishment of Humanoid Studios. The new game development studio is based in Canada, with offices in B.C. and Alberta, and is already at work on an unannounced intellectual property.

On Twitter, Hudson commented that the aim of Humanoid Studios is to “unleash the creative freedom of developers – bringing innovation and artistry to players through an all-new IP” and hinted that he has been “working with colleagues on something awesome” that he can’t tell us any more about yet.

Still in its early days, Humanoid Studios is currently hiring for multiple positions. The as-yet very bare-bones official website lists Senior Gameplay Programmer, Senior Gameplay Designer, Director of Operations, Senior Creative Director, Environment Artist, Senior Level Designer, and 3D Artist as the current positions they’re recruiting for, with an option to inquire about other roles using their careers@humanoidstudios.com email address.

While everything is understandably still very vague, the pages for each of the different open career roles do hint at a few ideas of what’s in the works, with references to “an immersive new universe of story, character, and discovery” and staff having experience “shipping multiple AAA titles, ideally with Unreal Engine” for the game, but also “ancillary products based on Humanoid IP, such as movies and TV, toys, books, and apparel” suggesting a goal to take a multimedia approach with new IP at least at some point down the road.
