New Pokémon Game Brings Full-Scale Battles To Mobile

It’s officially Pokémon day, and as such the franchise had its usual full online presentation to celebrate. Alongside a new look at Pokémon Legends: Z-A, and a wealth of updates for Pokémon TCG PocketPokémon Unite and more, we also got the reveal of a brand new game – Pokémon Champions. Coming to Nintendo Switch, Android and iOS at some point in future, the game will focus entirely on Pokémon battling.

Pokémon Champions doesn’t streamline battles for mobile, instead opting to embrace the full complexity of Pokémon battling from the mainline games and porting that over to mobile (and its own Switch version) where strategy and understanding of Pokémon mechanics is key. Pokémon will have their types, moves, abilities and even the option to Mega Evolve (if they have one) or Terastallize. We also get a look at a regional exclusive variant in the reveal trailer with Hisuian Samurott making an appearance.

It’s been long-awaited by fans to have a Pokémon game that exclusively focuses on battling. We have seen them before in titles such as Pokémon Stadium or Pokémon Battle Revolution, but they are getting pretty old at this point and we’ve had many new complicated mechanics added to Pokémon titles since then! With Pokémon Champions, it seems we’ll have a new hub to test out battling skills, clash together different Pokémon gimmicks and fight for glory on the global level. We’re excited!

Are you looking forward to clashing with trainers around the world in Pokémon Champions? What other types of spin-of titles would you like to see from Pokémon? Sound off in the comments below, and keep your eyes on GameLuster for more breaking gaming news and Pokémon coverage.
