MultiVersus Release Date Revealed, Moving To Unreal Engine 5

The long-awaited platform fighting game MultiVersus has finally had its release date set, with the game confirmed to be releasing on May 28. The reveal was shared via YouTube, in an official development update that marks the first news on the game in quite some time. As well as revealing the release date, the update also shares some new features and changes coming to the final game, such as a new PvE mode.

MultiVersus will be moving to Unreal Engine 5, having previously been developed on Unreal Engine 4 during the game’s beta period. Tony Hyunh, the director of MultiVersus, says the change in engine will “improve the game’s visuals and lighting”, as well as being used to support new netcode to deliver a better quality online gameplay experience.

Whilst no new characters were revealed, concept art was shown for new maps, including the titular lab from Dexter’s Laboratory and Townsville from Powerpuff Girls. This is certainly no confirmation of any upcoming characters, but we can’t help but hope it’s a tease for more characters to come soon. Platform fighters, especially those based on existing franchises, often generate a lot of hype from new character reveals, so we expect to hear more before the game’s launch in a few months time.
