New Name, New Logo for Mojang Studios

Minecraft creator Mojang recently celebrated the eleventh anniversary of their famous title’s release with a big announcement: the company is officially rebranding and renaming themselves Mojang Studios! As explained in a blog post on the official Minecraft Web site, the “Studios” label was added to the name in order to honor all the different studios around the world, which make up the greater Mojang.

In addition to the new name, the anniversary blog post unveiled a new logo to go along with it. The logo features the signature “Mojang” in stark white against an eye-catching red background. The individual letters are made up of uniquely shaped gizmos that spin and twist before eventually working together to form the “Mojang” logo.

A trailer explained that these little widgets are none other than “The Mojangs.” Made from creativity, play, and fun, the Mojangs “test, and tinker, endlessly explore, and help [the studio] discover new corners of the Minecraft universe.” It remains to be seen whether they will be limited to appearing in the logo or serve a more significant role as mascots for the company. Still, two things can be said for sure: 1) they are utterly adorable, and 2) their shape and design is ideally suited for the name “Mojang,” which derives from a Swedish word meaning “gadget.”

The newly named Mojang Studios has plenty in store to continue celebrating Minecraft’s enduring success. The blog post provides several tantalizing hints, notably mentioning that the studio is “planning a feature film, preparing an epic live show, and playing with ideas for brand new games.” Hopefully, more information regarding these exciting projects will be announced shortly.

Congratulations to Mojang Studios on eleven years of play and creativity with Minecraft. We can’t wait to see what else you’ve got in store for us in the future, and we’d love to see more of the Mojangs! Maybe they can even come to the world of Minecraft and pal around with the Creepers!
