This past weekend a rumour surfaced claiming that companies; Amazon, Sony, and Steam are all offering refunds for Hello Game’s No Man’s Sky. While there is a modicum of truth behind this claim, none of the three companies listed above are offering ‘unconditional’ refunds for the game itself.

After numerous individuals contacted PlayStation UK’s Customer Support team directly to discuss the terms of a potential refund for the game, we were informed that customers ‘can request a refund’, but only when the individual who purchased the title fits certain criteria. This includes encountering numerous and potentially game-breaking technical issues, in which the individual is required to run through a list of ‘troubleshooting options’ in order to determine the legibility of the refund. These options will then be ‘passed over to the PlayStation investigation team’ to assess whether or not the individual is legible for a refund.

Amazon UK was also contacted regarding the refund policy on No Man’s Sky, who stated that they ‘didn’t want to go into the specifics as to what the criteria is for a potential refund’ but did ultimately say that the company was offering them on a ‘case-by-case basis’.

Despite these both being UK branches of global companies, the policy isn’t likely to differ much on an international basis.

In terms of potential refunds on PC platforms through Steam, an orange box has appeared on the No Man’s Sky purchase page, stating that the standard Steam refund policy applies as normal.

Here’s the box text: “The standard Steam refund policy applies to No Man’s Sky. There are no special exemptions available. Click here for more detail on the Steam refund policy. You can learn more about Steam’s refund policy over on the official site.”

In terms of whether or not you deem yourself legible for a refund of your purchase Of No Man’s Sky, it is up to the representatives themselves to assess and ultimately come to a conclusion.

No Man’s Sky launched this August, and Gameluster scored it at a 7.5 out of 10 in a review, available on the site.
