Octopath Traveler Announces 3 Million Units Shipped

We can’t think of a better accompaniment to today’s Octopath Traveler II announcement! It has been confirmed by the official Japanese Octopath Traveler account that the game has now shipped three million units. This figure is a combination of both physical and digital sales.

The JRPG developed by Square Enix had heads turning ever since the reveal of its HD-2D art style, one that has gone on to become a popular style for the genre. The game was received well after release by critics, and became a headlining title in the Nintendo Switch’s JRPG line-up.

The HD-2D graphics of Octopath Traveler has been hugely influential for the JRPG genre.

The audience for the game expanded even further with a PC release in 2019 and an Xbox One release in 2021. It also arrived on Stadia in 2020, for all three people using the platform.

Triangle Strategy is another title from Octopath Traveler producer Tomoya Asano, and is now set for a PC release coming this October. Hopefully this means we’ll get new sales figures for this title too, and see a similar degree of success.
