Once Human Takes Players to a Horrifying, Compelling Future

Introduced during IGN’s “Summer of Gaming” event, Once Human is an upcoming survival horror title blending elements of the supernatural, the futuristic, and the downright terrifying. The title is developed by NetEase Games, who are no strangers to the world of horror — their previous projects include the Dead by Daylight mobile game and Zoz: Final Hour.

Once Human will see players sent to a mysterious future where the opening of a strange door has unleashed an army of horrific creatures on the world. Players will take on the role of a Beyonder, a human who has been enhanced by Stardust to be able to survive in this grim future. But surviving isn’t just about fighting creepy monsters. Players will also have to gather resources, rescue other survivors, and build home bases to keep them safe as more and more enemies flood through the door.

Described as a “weird survival sandbox,” the game will feature a unique art style inspired by the New Weird movement. Picture a grim but still colorful setting, and many species of aberrant creatures to fight. Some of the monsters showcased in early trailers include a glowing horned creature resembling a buffalo and a titanic monster made from tree bark and wood. Once Human will include both PvE and PvP modes. In PvP, players will be able to team up to stockpile resources and take down enemy strongholds. Meanwhile, PvE mode will offer a large world to explore for those who prefer to go solo. An in-depth look shown during the Summer of Gaming confirmed that players will be able to wield and upgrade a variety of weapons, including firearms both large and small.

Once Human does not currently have a release date, but is slated to release for both PC and mobile devices. Players can pre-register for future beta testing via the game’s website. For more on Once Human and other indie games, stay tuned right here at GameLuster.
