Open-World Harry Potter RPG Hogwarts Legacy Coming to PlayStation 5

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” This is only one of the many wise words from beloved Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore, who led the wizarding school during Harry Potter’s days as a student. And what could that statement apply to more than the chance, during these uncertain, definitely dark times, to return once again to Hogwarts?

Journey back to the wizarding school of the past with Hogwarts Legacy, an open-world adventure role-playing game (RPG) announced today to be coming to the next-generation PlayStation 5 (PS5) console. Set in the 1800s, Legacy allows players to create their own student character, get sorted into one of the four Houses, and expand their magical knowledge as they discover secrets, learn spells, battle fantastic beasts, and possibly even make decisions which will shape the future of magical society.

Developed by Avalanche under their Portkey Games label, Hogwarts Legacy certainly looks like the perfect game for anyone who grew up with the Harry Potter books and movies. Hogwarts’ past is a deep and rich story that Harry and his friends only briefly explore throughout the series — and now, gamers can be a part of that past. Besides taking classes, playing Quidditch, and performing other daily life activities while at school, players will have the chance to investigate mysterious secrets in locations outside Hogwarts’ walls, including Hogsmeade village and some unidentified but dangerous caves.

Plus, we got a look at an absolute menagerie of fantastic beasts in the trailer — Newt Scamander would be proud! Was that a dragon viewers could catch a glimpse of during the very end of the trailer? I sure hope it was!

Hogwarts Legacy will be released sometime in 2021. More information will be announced as the game’s release draws closer.
