Outer Wilds Upgrade Launches Today On PS5 And Xbox Series X/S

Who knew you could make a perfect game even better? The critically-acclaimed spacefaring adventure Outer Wilds has landed on the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S today. The game formerly emulated the last-gen versions of the game on newer systems, but now they have been upgraded to the definitive Outer Wilds console experience.

The additions of this upgrade aren’t particularly huge, but they go a long way. Outer Wilds now runs on both consoles at a native 4K resolution, and with a silky smooth 60 FPS frame rate. The higher resolution will make the planets and their unique environments look better than ever. The real star of the show is that increased frame rate. With such a heavy focus on jumping, gliding and flying, a higher frame rate will make the immersive experience feel even closer to reality. I’ve always wanted to fall into a black hole in 60 FPS.

The upgrade is free to anyone who owns the original versions of the game, and also for those who are subscribed to PlayStation Plus Extra and Xbox Game Pass. The physical copies of the game get an upgrade too. Those who own the Archaeologist Edition bundle will need to upgrade both the base game and the Echoes of the Eye DLC separately on their store pages. Save data from older versions is transferable but will only be a one-time prompt, so don’t miss out.
