Over 37 Million Sales for Last of Us Franchise

For their new year’s blog post, Naughty Dog said that as of December 2022, the global sales for the Last of Us series has passed an impressive 37 million copies. The developer went on to say that even more The Last of Us content will be arriving in 2023.

But first, back to those impressive sales numbers. The original The Last of Us game sold 1.3 million copies in its first week of release, was the tenth best-selling game of 2013, and has since then totalled over 20 million copies just by 2019. The sequel, The Last of Us Part II, made over 4 million sales during its release weekend, and has sold over 10 million copies since release. Since then, we know the final total is over 37 million. However, that number is only in small part due to the recent release of the The Last of Us Part I remake, which has been selling poorly to the point of even being outsold by the critically panned Saints Row reboot in the UK.

In June 2023, The Last of Us is turning ten years old. Naughty Dog has said that more fun surprises will be announced this year. Currently, we know to expect season one of the HBO adaptation, which is arriving on 15th January; the PC version of The Last of Us Part I on 3rd March; and the tabletop role-playing game, The Last of Us: Escape the Dark, in December. By the sounds of it though, Naughty Dog has more up their sleeve, even releasing new artwork for their upcoming Last of Us multiplayer game.
