A new piece of concept artwork has been released today that shows us the post-apocalyptic world of The Last of Us multiplayer. Seen above, the art pictures a decrepit cruise ship on the horizon, burned out cars framing the streets, and signs of nature retaking its territory, with palm trees looming over the characters.
In a blog post released today, January 4th, Co-President of Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann celebrates the upcoming 10th anniversary of The Last of Us franchise in June, and discusses what is next for the company. As well as touching on the upcoming PC release of The Last of Us Part I and the release of the HBO adaption of the first game, he also goes on to briefly talk about the upcoming multiplayer mode.
Adding to the new concept art, Druckmann goes on to highlight some details of the “ambitious” multiplayer mode, including how it will be a “new experience from our studio but one rooted in Naughty Dog’s passion for delivering incredible stories, characters, and gameplay.” Naughty Dog had previously released concept art of the multiplayer version in 2022, but hope this latest piece “further excites you for what [the] team is working on.”
The blog post also confirms the people leading the team on The Last of Us multiplayer: Vinit Agarwal, Joe Pettinati, and Anthony Newman. Agarwal is no stranger to Naughty Dog, having worked on The Last of Us, Uncharted 4, and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. Newman has also worked on both The Last of Us and The Last of Us Part 2. Finally, Pettinati, although an editor not having previously worked in the franchise, does have links to Bloodborne. With a vast array of contributors with plenty of experience, The Last of Us multiplayer mode is shaping up to be an exciting addition to the game.
