Professor Layton and the Lost/Unwound Future Coming to Mobile Devices

The colorful, puzzle- and mystery-filled Professor Layton series has begun making the jump to mobile devices over the past year. So far, the first two games in the series, Professor Layton and the Curious Village and Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box (aka Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box), have been released on mobile in stunning HD. Also, the series received a mobile-only spinoff, Layton Brothers: Mystery Room, in 2013.

Now, the new third entry in the popular puzzler will soon be available on your mobile device. Professor Layton and the Lost Future, also known as Professor Layton and the Unwound Future in specific markets, will be debuting for both iOS and Android on July 13, 2020. The game will require iOS 8.0 / Android 4.4 or higher to run correctly.

Unwound Future sees protagonist Hershel Layton and his intrepid assistant Luke receiving a letter from none other than Luke himself – 10 years in the future! Aided by Future Luke’s warning, the pair must solve a mystery chock full of puzzles to discover the secret behind humanity’s first time machine and prevent all of London from descending into chaos.

The game, now rendered in gorgeous HD, features over one hundred puzzles to solve in addition to three multi-stage mini-games. Even among other titles in the Professor Layton franchise, Lost / Unwound Future received praise from critics for its particularly brain-twisting and clever new puzzles.

You can learn more about the game’s plot, puzzles, and characters on the official mobile release website found here. Also, to commemorate Lost/Unwound Future coming to mobile, developer Level 5 is hosting an international art competition. Submit your art of a Layton character or scene who made an impression on you by July 31 for the chance to win a one of a kind diorama of the Professor’s very own office. See how to enter here.
