Mario and friends just celebrated their 35th anniversary, so it was practically a given that today’s Nintendo Direct event would feature some sort of Mario-related announcement. And, indeed, fans of the plumber were not disappointed!
This time, Mario will put aside his usual overalls and instead don some snappy golf whites as he tees off alongside Luigi, Peach, Wario, Yoshi, Bowser and many other characters in Mario Golf Super Rush, the latest Mario-centric sports title coming to the Nintendo Switch.
Super Rush will feature a number of quality of life improvements which will make the game even more intuitive and easier to get into. Examples shown off in the trailer include a shot gauge which predicts the slope of your shot and a scan feature which allows you to examine the territory of each hole before hitting the ball.
The game will feature a single-player Story Mode, in which players create a Mii character and set off on a journey to become the greatest golfer in the entire Mushroom Kingdom. In addition, the game supports multiplayer matches so you can challenge your friends to a hole or two.
New to this entry in the series is a mode called “Speed Golf,” in which four players take on a single hole all at once. Rather than following any sort of turn order, every player takes their turn at once as they rush to be the first one to get the ball in the hole. Classic power-ups from throughout the Mario series, such as the speed- and invincibility-granting Star, will also make an appearance in this mode. Look out for them if you want to get a leg up on your opponents!
Mario Golf Super Rush will debut for the Nintendo Switch on June 25, 2021. Preorders are available now via the Nintendo eShop.
