Star Wars Hunters Coming to Switch in 2021

A brand new multiplayer game from the Star Wars universe is coming to Nintendo Switch this year, as Star Wars: Hunters was announced at the most recent Nintendo Direct presentation. This new title, set between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens, is a multiplayer arena combat game that will feature entirely new characters and locations according to an announcement on the official Star Wars website.

The game will feature team-based, real time combat, with a range of characters to choose from. A Wookie warrior, Mandalorian fighter and red lightsaber-wielder were all visible in the trailer as potential choices, and there seem to be plenty more to try out, as “daring Bounty Hunters, heroes of the Rebellion, and an Imperial Stormtrooper” will all be available to use in combat.

According to Douglas Reilly, VP of Lucasfilm Games,“Star WarsHunters draws inspiration from classic Star Wars stories and settings, but with a look and feel that is different from anything we have done before”. With arenas supposedly inspired by iconic locations from the franchise, the game certainly looks to be drawing on older material, and repurposing it in a completely new type of Star Wars experience.

The game will be available later this year for free on the Nintendo eShop, as well as on the App Store and Google Play. Importantly, it will be completely free to download, with no Nintendo Switch Online membership required to play.
