Rumors have been floating around the internet for a few days now discussing a new Amiibo that would be the first of its kind. To date all Amiibo’s have had a connection to a major Nintendo game (Splatoon, Super Smash Brothers, Yoshi’s Woolly World and so on), but this is all changing. These rumors pointed to the impending release of the first third party Amiibo in the form of Shovel Knight and as has been recently revealed these rumors hold weight and Shovel Knight is indeed getting his own Amiibo.
The announcement was made as part of Nintendo’s Nindies@Night and according to reports Yacht Club Games will be handling the selling of the figures themselves. However Nintendo will be handling marketing of the Shovel Knight Amiibo in line with the rest of the figures.
The Shovel Knight Amiibo will unlock exclusive content for the Wii U and 3DS games, on Wii U the Amiibo will unlock a Co-Op mode, for both versions the Amiibo will give a challenge mode.
Nintendo’s Damon Baker also teased, “There will be more Yacht Club and Shovel Knight content coming to Nintendo platforms in the future”.
The Shovel Knight Amiibo will be compatible with all future Yacht Club titles on Nintendo systems.
