Team Ninja Says No Plans For Nioh 3, But Ninja Gaiden News Coming

Recently, Nioh director Fumihiko Yasuda sat down with news source The Gamer to discuss what Team Ninja has been up to lately. The interview contained a mix of good and bad news for fans, with sequels shelved for now but new titles potentially on the horizon.

Of course, Yasuda was almost immediately asked whether the studio currently had any plans for either Nioh 3 or a new title in the Ninja Gaiden series. Regarding Nioh 3, the director definitively stated that there are currently no plans. “Team Ninja would like to focus on working on new titles,” he told The Gamer. He did state that it was possible that he might return to the series after gaining more experience.

However, regarding Ninja Gaiden, the news was slightly more optimistic. Yasuda acknowledged how important the series was to Team Ninja, and encouraged fans to “look forward to some potential news for some kind of announcement in the near future.” It is unknown whether the announcement would be a re-release of an old title or something completely new, but regardless, it’s exciting news for fans of the long-running series.

Yasuda did express interest in seeing central Ninja Gaiden character Ryu Hayabusa in another game, as he felt that he was one of the franchise’s most important characters. However, he did not clarify whether or not his interest in seeing Ryu again had anything to do with the potential upcoming announcement.

Currently, the Complete Edition of Nioh 2 is scheduled to release for the PlayStation 5 on February 5, 2021. Yasuda encouraged both new players and longtime Nioh fans to try out this version, as it represents Team Ninja’s first time working with the technology available on a next-generation console.
