The First Nintendo Switch 2 Game File Sizes Have Been Revealed

The recent reveal of the Nintendo Switch 2 came with the confirmation that the built-in system storage is increasing to a comparatively massive 256GB from the original Switch’s 32GB internal system storage. This leap in storage space had some worried that Nintendo’s upcoming games may take a similar bump in size, but the first game file sizes are now available to view on the Japanese My Nintendo Store, and they’re surprisingly smaller than some expected!

The Switch 2 games with revealed file sizes include:

  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Switch 2 Edition) – 5.7 GB
  • Super Mario Party Jamboree (Switch 2 Edition) – 7.7 GB
  • Donkey Kong Bananza – 10 GB
  • Mario Kart World – 23.4 GB

Please note these sizes could change between now and when the games launch. Nintendo have long been known for their ability to optimize their file sizes for the system, and it seems their talented development teams aren’t slacking in the Switch 2 era either. For a comparison on file size growth, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with DLC is 11.3 GB on Switch, with Mario Kart World being a little over twice as big – but far below the present industry standard file sizes.

The world-smashing adventure of Donkey Kong Bananza is currently expected to fit within just 10 GB.

The file size of the GameCube Classics collection was also revealed, being a combined 3.5 GB for the application data, along with the launch line-up of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind WakerSoulCalibur 2 and F-Zero GX. It just goes to show how much game file sizes have ballooned that these three titles combined don’t even reach 4 GB of data between them!
