The beta for Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II was the biggest one in the history of the shooter franchise, according to an announcement from Activision. The impressive feat accounts for the most players within the beta, most hours played, and most matches played across consoles – including the Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, and Series platforms.
To support this statement, the beta’s concurrent Steam player count peaked at 168,330 players in-game in one go – which can be verified via SteamDB. Compared to Battlefield 2042, the EA shooter reached 156K players in 2021 – but the number, equally as impressive, does not account for PC players, as the Modern Warfare II beta could be accessed through Battle.net. Infinity Ward released a to thank players who dipped into the beta.
“We have loved seeing all of you playing our game and creating amazing moments. If you haven’t already, please share them with us on social media and we might reshare some of our favorites!” the statement reads. As the studio gears toward launch, they confirmed they would make “some adjustments based on learnings from the Beta.”
“One of the most important parts of the Beta is having you, the players, find new bugs and issues for us. We are grateful to the community for coming together to help us fine-tune this game—and we can’t wait to show you even more.” the statement continues. The studio will further address enemy visibility, footstep audio, weapon performance, refinements to the Third-Person playlist, and maps.
Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare II will launch across all major platforms, including the PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC via Battle.net and Steam from October 28. Players who pre-order the digital version of Modern Warfare II will receive the single-player campaign and other content a week earlier on October 20.
