The Sims 4 Is Going Free-To-Play Next Month

It’s been eight years since the launch of The Sims 4 back in 2014, and the game is finally going free-to-play. Starting Oct. 18, players on all platforms will be able to play the base game for free. This includes The Sims 4 on Origin, Steam, PlayStation 4/5, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One.

Fans of The Sims 4 who purchased the game at any point before the free-to-play launch will be given a Desert Luxe Kit as a free gift. This includes Southwestern desert-inspired furniture for indoors and outdoors, to give that natural oasis look.

The Desert Luxe Kit is free to those who paid for The Sims 4.

Players will still need to pay to purchase the many expansions, game packs, kits and bundles, but the entry point is free. Those who subscribe to EA Play will receive the Get to Work expansion included in their membership, whilst EA Play Pro subscribers will have the Get to Work expansion and the Toddler Stuff Pack.

Many fans have speculated that The Sims 5 would soon be a reality, given just how long The Sims 4 has been out. The gap between 3 and 4 was five years, so we’re certainly overdue a new entry. Today’s announcement suggest there’s more coming for The Sims 4, and the free base will be used as a platform to build up from even further. A special stream is scheduled to have more The Sims 4 news on Oct. 18 at 10AM PDT, so it seems we’ll be with this game for a while longer.
